Dear Fandango, A Movie Trailer IS An Advertisement

Screen shot 2010 08 24 at 5.31.17 PM Dear Fandango, A Movie Trailer IS An Advertisement

On my way to see Scott Pilgram vs. the World I was passing by Fandango to see what the times were like at the theaters near me. And I wondered what the trailers looked like. So I clicked on the Fandango "play trailer" button.

And what was I treated to but an AD for Snickers. How quaint to see a "Your Trailer Will Play In 30 Seconds" notice. BUT… Dear Fandango, Trailers ARE Advertisements. Trying to plug another ad on top of an ad is pretty bad form. AND the trailer didn't work. The Snickers "diva" ad worked fine, but the trailer timed out.

So I went to Apple's Quicktime site and watched the trailer without commercial interruption.

Somehow Fandango needs to get a clue. The Snickers ad can't be paying you enough money to piss me off. And I will probably come back to Fandango to see the movie times. BUT I'm pretty sure I won't ever be clicking on the "play trailer" link again and be pawned by Fandango.

Note: Scott Pilgram vs the World was a great movie, ala Napoleon Dynamite.
