More Buzzie Live – from the El Ray in Los Angeles

Category: just for fun, music, social mediajmacofearth @ 6:11 pm

(cross posted from blog.buzzie.com the buzzie rockband blog)

With the encouragement of two dear friends, I have begun processing some of the video from the El Ray show, oh, a few years back. This is the first instalment. The sound is about a 6 out of 10. It was shot on the tiniest video cam I ever saw. Just a fan. He contacted me after the show and offered to send it to me from JAPAN. He did.

This is a gift back to David Bash who has been so awesome to invite Buzzie back to IPO again and again.

And also to my blip.fm friends @ladypn and @adamofdallas.

A Bit 'o Humor at the Experts Expense: The SEO Expert said to the SM Expert

What did the SEO Expert say to the Social Media Expert when they found each other on a Social Media forum?

On the way to writing a post this morning, I fell into a dream state and this is what I saw. (Note: no names have been changed, no slander has been thrown, no one is a target here… This is just a jolly exchange between two fictitious characters in my oh so nutty mind. Thank you for playing along. Please ignore if it doesn't suit your taste.)

Social Media Expert: "How did you find me here, this is amazing!"
SEO Expert: "It's kind of my thing. This search stuff.
Social Media Expert: "Oh you mean keywords and stuff like that?"
SEO Expert: "Yep, SERP, PPC, IPO, Google, Slot, Adwords, Keyword, Page Rank, all that stuff."
Social Media Expert: "Dude, you sound like…"
SEO Expert: "I know…"
Social Media Expert: "An expert!"
SEO Expert: "Thanks! Do you want m to write a recomendation for your burgeoning LinkedIN profile? You sound like you know what you are talking about too."
Social Media Expert: "Let's do this!"
SEO Expert: "We can combine our knowledge and skills!"
Social Media Expert: "We'll have superpowers!"
SEO Expert: "I'll write you a killer recommendation on LinkedIN, it will do wonders for your brand!"
Social Media Expert: "I'll write you one too. We will rule the place."
SEO Expert: "What shall we call this place?"
Social Media Expert: "Something really good for our SERPs!"
SEO Expert: "See you're learning already. And something that will BUILD our reputations as experts!"
Social Media Expert: "Egggggactly!"
SEO Expert: "So what's a good term for what we are doing right now? What will build traffic for both of us?
Social Media Expert: "What shall we call this phenomenon that brought even to of us together… Something punchy!
SEO Expert: "Something with no BS!"
Social Media Expert: "Or maybe just the opposite…"
SEO Expert: "See, YOU are the expert my friend!"
Social Media Expert: "You said it!"
SEO Expert: "Right!"
Social Media Expert: "We're both EXPERTS."
SEO Expert: "We're gonna take this thing all the way to the bank."
Social Media Expert: "No body will be able to catch us, we're gonna rule this place. Rule it!

Gettin My Buzzie On: Summer 09 Tour of Love: "It's all part of my rock n' roll fantasy"

Category: about me,musicjmacofearth @ 8:29 pm

A free song for June. Here’s a demo I did for a song I wrote for Blue Cartoon. We played it for a while, but never recorded. Happy summer y’all.  If There’s Time – solo demo JMac

And a little post about getting ready for my Summer 09 Rock n Roll tour with Buzzie.

[excerpted from Buzzie's Rockband Blog]

I’ve got an old band mate and best friend out there, but not sure if I want to sleep over and then rent a car. They’ve got twin girls, probably in the 3ish range. And from my buddy’s response, they’re a bit overwhelmed. I asked him to sit in on a song or two. And he didn’t have the time. Oh well. Probably better to leave them be and do the Orchid. And get a car for the morning of the Orange County show. Just thinking things through. You can hear some songs from my pre-Blue Cartoon-era with John Bergquist in a band called Felix Culpa.

But the news is: I’M GOING. And today I decided to take the Les Paul rather than the Strat. Less opportunities to mess with the tone on the Strat. I’ve been know to whack the pickup selector in a strumming frenzy and then have a hard time finding the stroke to flip it back. And since I’ll be doin a backline amp, the last thing I need is to be tweaky with my tone. So set the Les Paul and leave it. Three tones. All tone and volume knobs UP, all the way UP. Down = bright, Middle = full, Up = Heavy.

Set it and forget it. In practicing today I was messing around with the Strat and it came to me, “I don’t even want to think about it.” One less thing to worry about.

The Taylor is Dusty – What Repells Us From Our Creative Passions?

Category: about me,connections, music, speed the webjmacofearth @ 11:27 am

The Taylor is Dusty What Repells Us From Our Creative Passions?

Phone Pic sent to a friend in July 2008

So what is it that keeps my beloved Taylor from getting the love it deserves? It was like the birth of a child when I was able to afford this lucious guitar. My fingers were well worn, I changed the strings every couple months because I was playing them so much they became dull. I was in the studio recording songs like a madman… What's changed?

Kids? But that's no excuse. Work? And while that's a pretty good one, it does not hold at the moment while I have a breather to ponder my next move. Energy? Nope, I'm as boyant as ever, rising early staying up late and catching a nap in the middle if the day affords it. Inspiration? Perhaps, but that's not a very good reason. If we paused our creative production to wait on inspiration or "muse" we would be silent much of the time. Joy? Health? Time? Nope, all good on those too.

But something bigger keeps us from singing our song. Something that goes beyond the fact that my Taylor is STILL DUSTY now in Feb. 09!

The only thing that even comes close, that is big enough to repell my spirit is fear. That's got to be it.

I would be guessing, because I am not conscious of being afraid of failure or embarrassment at the moment. But I have always had the artistic repulsion from my "studio, journal, practice" what ever it is, when I have not be in the "mode," when I have not been doing it.

So if I just DO IT, will I do it more?

I am full of inspiration and expression of thought. I am beating the crud out of the RockBand drums. I am as happy as I have ever been. [That alone is quite a statement!] But I am also content. In a zen way, I am not urgently needing to express anything. I don't have a broken love story to tell, I am quite elated with where I am in my marriage. I could write about job angst, except for the moment even that has passed.

But something is holding that Taylor just a few feet from my hands and keeping it there. I brought it out of it's case back in July when I wanted to propel my fingers into action. And since then I have picked it up and plucked a couple of times. And my kids, who are not used to hearing me play and sing, were quite supportive and excited to hear me playing.

But it didn't sound as good as I liked. I didn't remember the songs that were so fluid in my soul. The guitar was hard to tune, because the strings were so old and dull. And I did not have the burning desire to continue.

So in a zen world I would say I am content.

Back a number of years I was playing a festival in Los Angeles with my band Buzzie and a girl in the car asked a question.

"So is it better to be content with your life. Or is it better to be intent and striving for more."

I believe Michael Carpenter, from Australia, who was playing on stage with me said, "Striving, definitely. Endlessly striving for the next song, the next note or tone. Striving to express myself."

When it was obviously my turn to talk I said, "I don't know. I am very content right now with my wife and kids and regular life back in Austin. And I am also aware of my lack of striving at this festival. I am happy to be here and all, but I am also missing my ordinary life back home. So I would have to say, content. But that's not very good for my musician cred or my productivity."

"No," she said. "I can see that in you."
