SF Day FOUR – "It could be worse, it could be raining."

Category: about me,career,connections,just for fun,teaming & leadershipjmacofearth @ 2:47 pm

I'm not complaining. And apparently it's not much sunnier back in Texas.

Good morning SF from my Holiday Inn room. No Coit Tower tours for me today.

I'm wrapping up my HR stuff at the 60 Francisco office before picking up my bags and heading to the studio for the rest of the day.

I have to say these WeissComm folks have some very nice digs uptown as well.

The entry area at 60 Francisco, San Francisco, one block from the wharf.

And an internal waiting area on the way to my temp office.

And my golly, I'm a door! Maybe a temporary door, but coming from Dell's cube-villa, I was just thrilled to have a place to have my iTunes playing.

I know I will be merely a laser printed piece of paper in the trashcan after I leave, but these folks did me righteous. How fun to have people say, "Hey let me walk you around and introduce you." That happened at both offices. I was almost embarrassed for taking up folks time. However, it was a fun formality, and as quickly as I was actually working with these people, it was nice to at least have said 'Hey.'

The cooperative spirit within the entire group and everyone I met here is infectious. I have missed the agency team mode. And this place is cookin with business and that makes for a happy busy agency, much more fun than a struggling downsizing agency.

So as I pack up my office and head to 660 York, my sincere thanks to Jim Weiss and crew for a fine, but chilly, week in SF. I hope more of my colleagues get to visit Austin in the coming months. I hear we are looking into some cool offices in downtown Austin.

Here's the scene this afternoon at the studio:

Folks are working hard.

A shout to my buddy Scott Shadiow who tipped me to the best Kobe burger in SF and a view that was too pretty to miss. Here's a view from my table at the Butterfly in San Francisco:

And many thanks to my HR buddy Linda Peterson who took care me from my first 10 minutes at 60 Francisco.

Studio 660 here I come! And then JetBlue back home to Texas this evening. I still need to get one trinket for my son. When I was asking him about something from San Francisco, he said, "Get me a trinket. I like trinkets."

"More than a shirt?" I asked, since I love shirts.

"Yea, guys aren't really into clothes all that much."

"That's true," I said. "I'll get you something else."

Update: I'm stuck in SFO now. The rain has caused plane delays. So far only 1.25 hrs. Wish me and JetBlue luck. And so I've taken a picture of my new 13" mbp atop my well-loved and well-worn 15" mbp. Ain't it cute. It is SO LIGHT I can tell I am going to be checking my bag all the time to make sure I have my computer.

Come on JetBlue.

It is happy Friday after all. And I have to say these noise cancelling headphones and iTunes radio make this delay fairly painless. I'll be home just before midnight, Texas time. If they only rented beds by the hour in these airports.

San Francisco Day THREE – "Is it always this cold here?"

Category: about me,just for fun,social mediajmacofearth @ 11:46 am

santamac 09 San Francisco Day THREE Is it always this cold here? I'm just sayin… I know SF is known for breezy temperatures and all, but even the cab drivers are complaining about the cold. And no I am not complaining. I am dancing! But the 45 minute walk from WCG office one to office two (the studio) is a bit redic.

Had a great day yesterday in collaborative brainstorming mode. What a team!

Just getting started today, but I wanted to share a random picture I took yesterday walking from 660 to Starbucks, without a jacket in the middle of the afternoon freezing my trigger finger off.

First something random and pretty.

The courtyard at 60 Francisco, WCG headquarters.

Still Frosty in SF – Day TWO (awards, dev, and indoor tennis)

Category: about me,career, just for funjmacofearth @ 1:27 am

While it was not as cold today as yesterday, a jacket was still required when outside, even in the direct sun walking to Starbucks. I spent most of my working day at the ODA offices, or "the Studio."

ODA SF offices of Weisscomm Partners

The dev hallway at "the Studio." Dark, warm and full of glowing monitors and mischievous smiles.

ODA dev central - Weisscomm Partners

Here's the view through the front door of ODA, with a cameo from Mr. Bob Pearson working his magic from the main conference room. Today in this very conference room I got to brainstorm with some very smart folks. The meeting was inspiring to see all these creatives tossing out ideas, okay to be a part of the team for me was a thrill, tossing out ideas for a client project.

Even at the end of a long day it was refreshing to be in a collaborative environment and working on tools and ideas that could be of vital benefit to users.

And today was even more holistic when I played tennis with a WCG colleague, Scott Shadiow. Indoors of course. Amazing courts. We couldn't hear each other unless we were 10 feet apart.

San Francisco Tennis Club - indoor tennis

And no that is not us playing in the picture.

If all goes as planned I will get to play again tomorrow afternoon with another WCG friend.

And as they say in Ren and Stimpy, "Happy happy, joy joy, happy happy, joy."

San Fran Day ONE – WTF? (Elevator fun, Denny's for Breakfast, new job)

Category: about me,career, just for funjmacofearth @ 4:00 pm

I know I'm in San Francisco, but what does this button in the elevator do? Options: On / G /Off.

sf elevator seismic San Fran Day ONE WTF? (Elevator fun, Dennys for Breakfast, new job)

Answer: There's actually a company called Seismic Switch and here's what they say about their product: Now you can help protect your passengers and elevators. Seismic Switch units can disable or deactivate any elevators which may become life endangering or self destructive during an earthquake. (Is that like an elevator with a suicidal streak?)

And breakfast was less than a block away this morning Grand Slam assured.

dennys sf 09 San Fran Day ONE WTF? (Elevator fun, Dennys for Breakfast, new job)

And then the folks at WeissComm came in and said, just sign here, it won't hurt a bit!

The green dot docs will be for healthcare stuff, tomorrow. I should get my new mac (a rockin 13") today sometime.

More to come.
