It’s done. Today is the day we’re to kill our Twitter accounts. All of them. It’s going to take me a while. The decision is easy.
Twitter is a distraction. It’s more of a clipping service than a social network. Since Musk has gutted the platform and emerged as The Little Dark Prince he is, there are ethical reasons to leave the dead bird behind. The changes in Twitter are massive. And for $3, or $9, or $25 per month you can get some of those features back. IT IS NOT WORTH IT.
analyics.twitter.com < now requires a paid account
- tweetdeck or pro.twitter.com < now requires a paid account
- likes < now hidden to prevent people from seeing how predatory and gross Elon’s personal account is
- blocked accounts < can now read your content anyway (who asked for this?)
There is nothing to gain from paying Elon and Twitter. He ripped the heart out of the Twitter Team. He crippled the platform. He promised free speech and has since come out as DARK MAGA for TRUMP. That’s enough all by itself to initiate this closure. The metrics have gotten grim, even without access to Twitter’s side of the numbers.
It is a bummer. I joined Twitter during it’s launch at SXSW in Austin, Texas. It was fun. Innovative. The “statusphere” was born. I wrote about book about it. The Twitter Way.
Fought with Guy Kawasaki and other million+ follower accounts for spamming their followers. I worked to build up my following to 20k+. And for a while Twitter was like a gold mine for content creators. The more accounts that followed me, the more hits I could get by Tweeting a promotional content teaser.
The state of Twitter has changed. It was shrinking before Elon purchased it. With his political antics, Elon is telling over half of Americans to lump it or leave it. He’s the king. He can jump like an idiot behind Trump on a stage. Even as the richest man in the world, he can’t get over why his father and mother are apologizing for him. Fk Elon.
RIP Twitter. Welcome to the cancel culture of Elon’s X. I’m out with the Fail Whale.
Here’s Perplexity telling me about the Elon Exodus issue.
