Music Sharing That’s Fair!
Last night I was wondering about streaming music and the mess that has Taylor Swift making millions per month on streaming while most of us earn bunk. In my case, I pay to keep my five projects (bands) live on Spotify et. al. I started thinking about the Writer’s Strike in Hollywood. And how book publishers are trying to find a way to fight the ripoff that is Spotify. What if musicians hadn’t been sold out by our labels and executives and music publishing companies, and (wait for it) lawyers?
Books
Songs
Movies
I have a lot of books available on Amazon. At the moment, I don’t make much money off my books, but I remember not long ago when I got around $30 a month from my music on iTunes. So, what if books and movies went to ZERO as well? No wonder they fought like hell for copyright protection, ai protection, and royalties. Why don’t musicians have the same advocacy. Where are ASCAP, SESCAC, and BMI?
I’ve been making a case for a new streaming service. Perhaps that’s prohibitively expensive unless you’re Taylor Swift. Okay. So, how about a service that helps you share music using all platforms. And what if your subscription money went directly to artists? AI can help us manage the links and incoming data. Blockchain can keep the accounting transparent and open. Then musicians can get paid for recording music as well as merch and concerts. Sounds fair to me.
