#SXSW or #SXSPorch: Sour Grapes, or So What, Why I Love SouthBy and Will Miss It This Year

Screen Shot 2012 02 11 at 8.32.59 AM #SXSW or #SXSPorch: Sour Grapes, or So What, Why I Love SouthBy and Will Miss It This YearYou don’t care why I am going to sit out this South By Southwest. I know that. But I’ve answered the question so many times in the last 48 hours that I thought I would let you know publicly, that I love SXSW. I am not attending this year partially because of the badge fee. (In previous years I have had a company pay my entrance fee, or I have been a speaker and gotten a comp badge to SXSW Interactive) But not this year. So here’s my party line:

I am not going to SXSW this year because I don’t need any more ideas or any more connections. What I need right now is business. And there are "some" opportunities to get business at SXSW, but primarily it is for networking and getting to meet new people and socialize with old friends. It’s a great time. At this moment in my life, however, I am not in search of good times. I’m in search of the way, the path, the call to action that will match up with my call to service.

So my hashtag this year will be #SXSbed, signifying my ability to stay in bed on these cold rainy days in March, when I should be networking and jazzing it up with my fellow social media workers and associates. I’ll be writing and working from South by South-bed.

Maybe I’ve transitioned into SXSPorch.

But I will tell you, I am not idle. I am working on my evil plan(tm).

Have fun with the huge learning love fest in downtown Austin this weekend. I’m waving at you from over here in the hill country. And next year, let’s do a panel together and both get free badges. Here’s my previous post on this subject: Another SXSW – Another Dollar; Unless Somebody Else Is Paying, I’m Not Going

Gettin My Buzzie On: Summer 09 Tour of Love: "It’s all part of my rock n’ roll fantasy"

Category: about mejmacofearth @ 8:29 pm

A free song for June. Here’s a demo I did for a song I wrote for Blue Cartoon. We played it for a while, but never recorded. Happy summer y’all.  If There’s Time – solo demo JMac

And a little post about getting ready for my Summer 09 Rock n Roll tour with Buzzie.

[excerpted from Buzzie’s Rockband Blog]

I’ve got an old band mate and best friend out there, but not sure if I want to sleep over and then rent a car. They’ve got twin girls, probably in the 3ish range. And from my buddy’s response, they’re a bit overwhelmed. I asked him to sit in on a song or two. And he didn’t have the time. Oh well. Probably better to leave them be and do the Orchid. And get a car for the morning of the Orange County show. Just thinking things through. You can hear some songs from my pre-Blue Cartoon-era with John Bergquist in a band called Felix Culpa.

But the news is: I’M GOING. And today I decided to take the Les Paul rather than the Strat. Less opportunities to mess with the tone on the Strat. I’ve been know to whack the pickup selector in a strumming frenzy and then have a hard time finding the stroke to flip it back. And since I’ll be doin a backline amp, the last thing I need is to be tweaky with my tone. So set the Les Paul and leave it. Three tones. All tone and volume knobs UP, all the way UP. Down = bright, Middle = full, Up = Heavy.

Set it and forget it. In practicing today I was messing around with the Strat and it came to me, “I don’t even want to think about it.” One less thing to worry about.

GWD – Getting Webwork Done – tools, taxonomies, hacks, reviews, best-of-breed

Category: about me,social media,toolsjmacofearth @ 12:07 pm

GWD (Getting Webwork Done) is an homage to GTD (Getting Things Done). – This is the first official GWD post.

1. Simplify my mental tag cloud

2. Control, filter and capture the important bits of my personal infostream

3. Share my personal growth and journey with new ideas, processes and technologies

4. Gain Velocity and Agility

5. Let go of the stress and overwhelm associated with information overload

6. Examine spiritual simplification as part of this overall lifeway (cause the Social Web holds the future for me in many ways)

7. Open my processes to the communities I haunt and ask for other virtual pilgrams to join the call for agility

8. Do better
