Finding a Voice on LinkedIn: The AI Professional Services Leadership Group

LinkedIn has gone to the dogs since MSFT bought the platform. It tried to be Facebook for business for a bit. Today, LinkedIn is a job site. Period. If you’re on LinkedIn you are looking for a job or recruiting for an opening. The content on the site continues to be “marketing” jobs and expertise, on *ai* for example. But the content and context no longer make sense. Does MIT think C-suite executives are surfing LinkedIn for leadership?

LinkedIn Groups

The juice used to be in groups. And for organic reach, there is nothing better you can do. Start a group. Heck, start a group on AI if you’re inclined. Then, make sure you select at least a few compadres for leadership positions on the group. Then, publish your ass off. Become the FEED ON AI for others. Yes, it’s already being done. And the newsletters about AI updates are insane. Some are good. Many are churn. AI-generated churn and chaffe. Nothing of value. Nvidia breaks previous pricing highs. Nvidia rolls out its newest and most powerful ai chip, ever. No other AI chip can compete with Nvidia.

And as you begin to grow your membership, take a minute to welcome every new join. Ask them to post a “hello” message. Continue to seek leadership content from members, so you can give them the same group boost as a thanks for joining.

LinkedIn Organic Reach

My current highest article written on LinkedIn has about 1,200 views, over several YEARS.

Today, LinkedIn has sunk to an organic reach metric of 0.09%. Or less than 1% for those following along. Your writing on LinkedIn is not going to generate followers, jobs, or new customers. Sorry, for that you’ll have to pay. Or, rather, start a group.

If one of my posts gets 10 organic views, that’s a good result. So, to reach 100 people I have to come up with 10 posts per day, or repeat successful posts from the past. Reposting old content is a common practice, but the numbers decline severely after the 3rd reposting. Here’s what you do instead.

Threading Your LinkedIn Content

Rather than post any content about AI into my follower and connections stream, (The 10 views publishing option) I thread the conversation. I post within my AI Leadership Group and then repost that “group post” to my general audience. And guess what, the organic reach is not exponentially larger, but it’s worth doing. I get about 20 views on posts that were threaded properly.

Wait, that sucks, right? That means it’s really just getting 10 views on the first post and 10 more views on the threaded version. Crap. Oh well, double your posts impact on LinkedIn, create a group.

LinkedIn Organic Reach Boosted with Groups

You can control the content to some extent. Moderate your comments. Prevent others from spamming the group. And give kudos when you can to member’s successes or projects. It builds goodwill. Perhaps one of your members will suggest your group to their friends.
