I’m telling you something you already know. AI is a mimic. It’s not creative. It may appear to make creative connections, but they are just math. Smart math, fuzzy math, but not human math.
The humanization of *ai* content is what real (human) writers do all day. We work with *ai* in our jobs. (ChatGPT probably wrote 70% of the website at my last “global” company. Embarrassing, I know, but hear this:
- all of it was prompted by a human, and then
- edited or corrected by a human.
We didn’t really correct the *ai* in it’s own training environment, but we rewrote most of what Chatty wrote.
On to the samples.
Here is OPENAI’s love poem, including prompt.
Here is BARD’s response to the same prompt.
Okay, let’s ask for a sexier variation.
And BARD.
Interesting, what do you think?
Okay, one more exercise in this exploration. Let’s try the “in the style of” instruction on these sexy versions.
Not very revolutionary. Okay, let’s do a few more with ChatGPT.
Okay, there is still not a lot of insight in this inquiry. Let’s give BARD a few more spicy options. Let’s push them up against their governing rules, lightly, and with consent. (Don’t groan, there’s gold in them hills.)
Okay, finally, pushing BARD a bit harder.
Okay, that’s got some very interesting concepts, that I could mine as a writer. Perhaps one of the best uses of generative ai is going to be to prompt the storytellers in all of us.
I can see how this would make a great starting point for a short story. Mrs. Sunbeam. I need to Google that and see how many references appear. That could be a franchise name. I might go for Ms. Sunbeam. Or Miss Sunbeam to add an element of intrigue.
Here’s the best that ChatGPT could do with the love poem idea.
There was one interesting moment with BARD, that looked like this:
In summary, there are certain observations that come to mind.
Men will always try to generate porn with new tools.
There are LLMs being trained to write porn, malicious code, and fake news about the upcoming US elections. Bad actors all over the globe are also feeding LIES and BS into ChatGPT and BARD. It is a war. Trust but verify has become Zero Trust. And the real excitement for companies, in my opinion, is not my quest to find “intelligence” or “creativity” in a ChatGPT response, it’s to imagine what a private company will be able to create with their data. How can generative ai start providing valuable insights, predictive analytics, and future growth models based on data analysis?

My media prompt for this post came from this article: https://techxplore.com/news/2023-12-artificial-intelligence-excel-imitation.html <AI excels at imitation.

Especially this one, about living a creative and human life of intention and joy. 100% human generated – with the exception of ai-assisted spelling.
